Below is a list of links that you might find helpful. They are websites and resources that we believe to be trustworthy. These sites are not exclusive to the Hubbard Memorial Library and can be accessed anywhere.

The Blue Book

  • The Blue Book is an industry source of regional, categorized construction information. Available in print and online.

The Central Register

  • The Central Register is the weekly source for information about state, county and municipal contracts being put out to bid for the design, construction and reconstruction of public facilities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Goods and Services Bulletin

  • The Goods and Services Bulletin is a weekly publication containing solicitations for the procurement of commodities and services (which, generally, are unrelated to construction of public facilities).

Thomas Net

  • Thomas Net is a comprehensive online resource for finding companies and products manufactured in North America. Free registration.

Free Online Learning at GCFGlobal

  • Refreshers, primers, and introductions to computer and internet literacy, as well as career planning and job searching.

Ludlow Area Adult Learning Center

  • The Ludlow Area Adult Learning Center (LAALC) helps adults learn English and offers other support programs. Students join our program to improve their communication skills for college, careers, and community engagement. This free program serves adults in the Ludlow/Indian Orchard area who are immigrants or refugees. Students range in age from 17 to 70+. All are welcome! The Ludlow Area Adult Learning Center is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, Adult & Community Learning Services, and Holyoke Community. MassLINKS Adult Education Online

  • MassLINKS Online Academy is a FREE DESE-funded Massachusetts statewide adult education program. Students can choose from High School Equivalency (GED and HiSet) preparation classes or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL/ESL) classes. Classes are offered fully online with evening and morning options to help you work around your schedule.

  • The National Application Center is a comprehensive online resource to help college-bound students prepare for and select a college, apply for admission, understand eligibility, and find out about financial aid.
Genealogy

Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers

  • Search America's historic newspaper pages from 1770-1963 or use the U.S. Newspaper Directory to find information about American newspapers published between 1690-present. Chronicling America is sponsored jointly by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress.

Ellis Island Archive

  • The Ellis Island Archive includes searchable passenger records, manifests, ship information, and other information.

FamilySearch

  • FamilySearch is a free collaborate family tree that provides access to civil and church records when you create a free account.

Massachusetts State's Archives

  • The Archives, a division of the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, is the repository for Massachusetts records generated by state government. Archives holdings date from the beginning of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1628 and document the settlement of lands in Maine and Massachusetts, the arrival of immigrants, and the development of state government.

National Archives

  • The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation's record keeper. Those valuable records are preserved and are available to you, whether you want to see if they contain clues about your family’s history, need to prove a veteran’s military service, or are researching a historical topic that interests you.

Massachusetts Municipal Guide - 2024

Massachusetts Health Connector

  • Enrollment Assisters, such as Navigators and Certified Application Counselors (CACs) are trained and certified individuals at organizations in your area that can help you apply for coverage, shop for plans, answer your questions about your eligibility, payments, plan details, and health care reform rules and requirements. Help from an Enrollment Assister is free for people of any income level.

MedlinePlus

  • Free health information from the National Library of Medicine, including advice on weight control, high blood pressure, back pain, pregnancy, and much more.

MyHealthfinder

  • A government-sponsored resource offering information on how to live a healthy lifestyle.

National Institutes of Health

  • The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.

PubMed

  • PubMed comprises more than 30 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.

CareerOneStop

  • A state-by-state directory of job banks; each individual bank collects and posts jobs from all over the state, which can be searched by location, job title, etc. Some job banks may require registration; Massachusetts does not. Also provides articles to help you build a resume, gain skills, job search planning, and more.

Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development

  • The Commonwealth's one-stop career center, offering forms and information regarding unemployment, job seeking, worker’s comp, and other job-related subjects.

Indeed

  • Indeed is currently the most popular job site in the world with over 250 million unique visitors every month. It free access to a search engine for jobs, help with building resumes, and allows users to research potential employers.

Monster.com

  • This is a popular employment resource for both individuals seeking jobs and employers seeking workers. Users can search for jobs by title, location, or skills, and then narrow the results by salary and other categories.

Occupational Outlook Handbook

  • This online handbook is updated annually and contains information on careers.  The handbook includes information on the fastest-growing occupations, number of new jobs, a summary of the highest-paying occupations, and more. 
Legal Research

  • A directory of lawyers and legal information. Legal forms may not be free.

Massachusetts Civil Legal Aid for Victims of Crime

  • Mass CLAVC connects you to civil legal aid for victims of a crime.

Massachusetts Free Legal Answers

  • Free Legal Answers is provided by the American Bar Association. Legal questions are answered for free for those who qualify.

Massachusetts Legal Resource Finder

  • Massachusetts Legal Resource Finder will give you contact information for legal aid offices, government agencies and court programs that may be able to help you for free or at low cost.

Ludlow: From Small Village to Industrial Town

  • Western Massachusetts Master Gardener Association: A great source of gardening information, including an email hotline that lets visitors get answers to their questions from the experts.

Westover Golf Course

  • The 18-hole “Westover” course at the Westover Municipal Golf Course facility in Ludlow, Massachusetts features 7,025 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 73.7 and it has a slope rating of 131 on Blue grass. Designed by Orrin Smith, the Westover golf course opened in 1954.
