Coronavirus Statement

In support of State efforts to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Hubbard Memorial Library will be closed through at least Saturday, April 4. We are also suspending all programs, events, and meeting room bookings during this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please hold onto all library materials checked out to you until at least this time, the outside book drop will remain locked.  There will be no late fees charged.

Please visit us on Facebook, where staff will be monitoring from home.

View our ebook collections by clicking here.  We also have many databases that you may use remotely from home with your library card.

There is a cart of free library discarded books in the library's old entrance.  This will be periodically refilled by staff but there is no set schedule for refills.  Please do not leave any books here as there will not regularly be staff available to handle them.

Reminder notices alert

Hello,

CWMARS is working to deliver some email notices that were created early this morning, including auto renewal and holds pickup notices, that stalled during creation. In some cases this caused a patron to receive an auto renewal notice for an item that was returned today. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hubbard Memorial Library receives an MBLC Grant!

The Hubbard Memorial Library was recently awarded a federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant for $15,000.00 from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC).  “This year’s grants illustrate the vibrant and dynamic ways that libraries connect with their communities, “said Robert Favini, Head of Library Advisory and Development at the MBLC. “The grants help libraries expand service offerings, impact lives and demonstrate why libraries continue to be a vital part of the civic landscape. We are proud of the work that is done by Massachusetts libraries through the LSTA grant program.”

Hubbard Memorial Library plans to develop a makerspace known as the CREATEHub. The CREATEHub is a collection of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) based technology and resources enhanced by programming and partnerships which would allow for the access to key new technologies and supporting educational resources that may not otherwise be available to the pre-teen and young adult audiences. These resources would also allow for the creation and expansion of current programming and services geared toward the pre-teen and young adult audiences. Access to these tools would complement the existing activities currently taking place in the school system and would take place in both a structured program based environment while also allowing opportunities for free form exploration and learning. The addition of take home equipment would further enhance the learning experience and provide the type of self-exploratory learning that is core to building a lifelong learner.

The MBLC developed this direct grant program using federal funding to help libraries meet local community needs including projects that help jobseekers with career development and job information, programs that help New Americans learn English and become citizens, STEM and STEAM projects, programs that serve teen needs, and projects that preserve valuable historical documents. The MBLC also offers grants to increase access to library services for people with disabilities.

In addition to the direct library grant program, the MBLC uses LSTA funds to support statewide programs and services including summer reading programs, research databases, the statewide eBook program, the Commonwealth Catalog and mass.gov/libraries which has information and resources for residents.  LSTA is administered on the federal level by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in the Commonwealth by the MBLC. More information about LSTA can be found on Board's website at www.mass.gov/mblc.
